Logitech continues to expand its gaming keyboard lineup with the G316 X 98, a compact mechanical gaming keyboard designed to deliver a combination of speed, customization and everyday practicality. Rather than using a traditional full-size layout, the G316 X 98 adopts a 98% compact layout, keeping the dedicated number pad while reducing the overall footprint on the desk.
The G316 X 98 is aimed at gamers and enthusiasts who want more than a basic mechanical keyboard. It features hot-swappable mechanical switches, an 8,000Hz polling rate, gasket-mounted construction, double-shot PBT keycaps, LIGHTSYNC RGB lighting and a multifunction control dial.
The G316 X 98 features a sturdy plastic chassis that keeps the keyboard lightweight while still providing a solid and rigid structure for everyday gaming and typing.
Despite its compact 98-key layout, the keyboard feels well-built and stable on the desk. During normal typing and gaming, there is very little noticeable flex in the chassis, giving the keyboard a reassuring sense of durability.
The internal gasket-mounted design further enhances the overall build quality and typing experience. Instead of securing the plate directly to the chassis, the gasket structure provides a small amount of cushioning and flexibility when the keys are pressed.
As a result, the G316 X 98 delivers a softer and more comfortable typing feel compared with many conventional gaming keyboards, while maintaining the stability needed for fast-paced gaming.
Double-Shot PBT Keycaps
Logitech equips the G316 X 98 with double-shot PBT keycaps.
PBT is generally more resistant to wear compared with standard ABS keycaps, especially when the keyboard is used heavily. Over time, ABS keycaps can develop a smooth and shiny surface, while PBT tends to maintain its texture for longer.
The keyboard supports an 8,000Hz polling rate, allowing the keyboard to report input to the PC much more frequently than a conventional 1,000Hz keyboard.
Multifunction Control Dial
The multifunction control dial on the top-right provides convenient access to volume and other supported settings, allowing users to make quick adjustments without reaching for Windows or opening additional software.
Connectivity
The G316 X 98 is a wired gaming keyboard, providing a direct connection to the PC.
A wired connection has several advantages for gaming. There is no need to worry about battery life, wireless interference or charging.
Logitech G HUB Software
The Logitech G316 X 98 is supported by Logitech’s G HUB software, which provides a wide range of customization options for users who want to personalize the keyboard for gaming and everyday use.
Through G HUB, users can customize the lighting on individual keys as well as the keyboard’s 30-zone light bar. Logitech also supports more advanced lighting animations and synchronization between compatible Logitech G devices.

The Logitech G316 X 98 is a well-balanced mechanical gaming keyboard that focuses on speed, flexibility and practicality.
Its 98% layout provides an excellent compromise between a full-size keyboard and a compact gaming keyboard. You still get the dedicated number pad and important navigation keys, while the overall footprint is smaller and leaves more space for the mouse.
The 8,000Hz polling rate gives the G316 X 98 impressive gaming credentials, particularly for competitive players who want to minimize input latency. Meanwhile, the hot-swappable switches make the keyboard considerably more flexible, allowing users to customize the typing experience without soldering.
The addition of gasket mounting, PBT keycaps, LIGHTSYNC RGB and the multifunction control dial further improves the overall package.
What I particularly like about the G316 X 98 is that Logitech has not focused solely on gaming performance. The keyboard remains practical for everyday use, making it suitable for users who spend their day working on a PC and their evenings gaming.
Overall, the Logitech G316 X 98 is a fast, flexible and feature-packed mechanical gaming keyboard. If you are looking for a compact keyboard that does not sacrifice the number pad, while offering high polling performance and plenty of customization options, the G316 X 98 is definitely worth considering.
